So my 07 diesel avensis shakes pretty bad above 100kph. Its not the wheels balancing. Its tolerable, but the faster I go the worse it becomes. but......

It shakes for about 3 seconds....stops shaking for about 3 seconds, then starts again. All this when I'm cruising along at 120 (ish):confused: . This goes on and on. Any ideas?

    Tracking out I'd say.

As suggested, it could be the wheel alignment. Otherwise it's a worn suspension component, such as a wishbone. Could be any number of things but it will need someone to look at it and give a good prod of all suspension components to see what part(s) is/are loose and need replacing.

I second the Tyre wall more then likely on the inside. Just look under the car for a bulge in any of the tyres. More then likely a front prob the front left. And the tracking wouldn’t cause a shake it would cause the car to pull left or right.

I had this on my motorbike back around 2000. It was a TZR 125. The problem was a shot\seized wheel bearing. it only shook when I had the throttle on, when the chain put pressure on the wheel. In my case the bearing was spinning.. the whole bearing, and it wore a groove into the inside of the wheel. The wheel was a total writeoff.
You might be able to narrow it down somewhat if you figure out if the shaking occurs with the throttle on, or not. And jack her up and give the wheels a shake too. Maybe check the engine mounts too.

If it was a bearing you would hear it at certain speeds. It’s defo not a bearing

I never said it was a wheel bearing! :-)

I just used it as an example. ie, If the noise is only present when the throttle is on then it's probably something related to the engine, driveshaft etc. Whereas if the noise is there, whether the throttle is on or not, then it's probably a dodgy tire, or something not related to the drive system.

A faulty wheel bearing makes a noise all the time regardless of throttle input. There may be other symptoms depending on how worn it is but the constant noise above a certain speed is the key.
