Hi I'd like to hear how long it took people to find their traineeship? I realise this is going to vary a lot but I'd like to get an idea of how long it might take me...

I am looking to start applying this October when hopefully I will have finished my FE1s (5 passed, 3 to sit in October). I've also secured a 2 week legal work experience this July.

I am not applying yet as I am on ok money currently in my job and I need more time to save for Blackhall fees...

Its worth applying now, if you find a good firm they will pay your blackhall fees. Also if you find a firm that you can work at before you go to Blackhall they are required to pay you while you are studying there as well

Thanks for your comment. I had assumed it was pretty much only the big commercial firms that would pay your fees? Would you regard it as common enough now for medium size/smaller firms to contribute to fees?

I don't know how common it is but it is worth going out there and talking to firms.

If you are looking at small to medium firms start handing out CV's with a cover letter explaining what you have done and your planned timeline for Blackhall. It cant hurt and you may get lucky

Where are you based- I would say get CVs out now. We have a few trainees without all the FE1 exams passed and the longer you are in the office learning the better.

Would you say it's better to email or perhaps maybe give them a ring first?

I sent my CV by email to a load a firms whether they were advertising or not. I got offered a traineeship with one that got back to me and they are paying all fees. They are mid size firm. Definitely think it is worth emailing firms.
