Audi A4 (B8) TDi - clutch replacement

Hi all - I have an 2011 Audi A4 s line TDi 170PS. It has 120k miles on it at the moment. Recently I’ve noticed a couple of signs that the clutch is on its last legs - has a higher biting point and struggles to do a steep hill start - yet im not getting rattle or whine from the clutch or flywheel.

I’ve noticed with other Audi tdi’s that usually get the clutch and flywheel get replaced around the 100k mile mark, so maybe mine been at 120k - maybe it’s time to have it done.

    Could any expert clarify?

    Thanks!

A clutch can last 200k it all depends on the cars life and by life I mean previous drivers there is no hard and fast figure to determine clutch life.

You should do the hand brake test with clutch engaged and see if the wheels haunch down, that will give you an idea of strength

A Clutch and a Flywheel are two separate parts.

A clutch can be worn and slipping but doesn't necessarily mean the flywheel will be rattling.

But at that mileage, if you are replacing the Clutch, it would be wise to replace the DMF too although it will be costly.

2011 A4's have an Electronic Parking Brake. It will automatically release as you let off the clutch

My experience on this my 09 a4 the fly wheel rattled and failed at about 115k km before any sign of clutch failing .

Replaced both as it was out a and would be silly not to,op if the clutch is going factor in the price of flywheel as well when i did mine mine it cost 1100 about two years ago using a Sachs kit.

Does it use oil? B8 A4s leak through the crank seal causing the clutch to slip although at 120k it could well be clutch failure.

A rattle or a whine would be irrelevant to the clutch slipping anyway.

They're not the easiest box to drop so expect a big enough labour bill. Price around and see before jumping into it.

It will have a dual mass flywheel fitted to it so you will need the whole kit. Gona be expensive either way.

No it’s not using oil at all, the clutch hasn’t slipped yet either - just the most noticeable thing is the higher biting point of the clutch. Cheers

Ye I’ve heard a few different stories of either the flywheel or clutch failing. Just that’s my most noticeable thing is the higher biting point of the clutch. But just like you said, be silly not to have both replaced at the same time. Thanks

Did you end up getting this done? I've a b8.5 and it has a really high biting point but clutch functions ok

The thread is 3 years old and the OP's only 3 posts in that time are in this thread.
