I’m looking at the above as I need a bigger car for family. It has 185,000kms on it.

What are these like , do they give DPF trouble ?

Anyway I could identify if it’s something that could go wrong ?

What are they like reliability wise, as it’s a Toyota, I’d assume they are good.

Just trying to think of any potential pitfalls.

I know it has a chain driven engine and solid flywheel, they don’t have DMF.

    Quick opinions welcome....thanks very much

ARe you sure they don’t have Dmf? The older ones had a DMF.

No, they don’t have DMF, verified with main dealer.
I’ve a 2009 Corolla d4d and that has solid flywheel as well

    Anyone ?

I know the Corolla 1.4 D-4D doesn’t have one. But the 2.0 Avensis got them in 2000, the T25 03-09 model def has one too. It would be bizarre if they went to a solid flywheel for the new model.

Can anyone give me their opinion on the 2012 Avensis 2.0 d4d (125bhp).

I really need to know what they’re like from a reliability perspective and what to look out for ?

Generally very reliable and not too bad on diesel. The turbo, dpf, egr and clutch all seem to have a very long lifespan compared to the competition.

Comfortable and well geared for motorway cruising I'd aim for a the top spec if you could the added kit really transforms the car.

Rear brake pads noising and parking brake issues are not unheard of although a 2012 facelift model should be a pretty safe bet.

The injector loom can give bother but it's a pretty rare occurrence. Don't think there's any symptoms that can be looked out for though.

All in all you'd be hard pressed get a more reliable cheap diesel cruiser in the 2012 age bracket.

Thanks very much for the info, really appreciate it.

Do you think 185,000kms is ok mileage wise ?
It will be our main family car so I need to ensure I buy a reliable machine that’s within my budget

As long as it has a decent service history it should be fine.

I currently have a 13 reg Avensis Aura and love it. Do a lot of driving and find it perfectly refined and relaxed. Not had any issues with it and done 60k kms in the last 10 months.

Only issue I'd say to watch put for is poor seals and fitment of the front doors. Dealers can easily rectify it. Make sure it has a proper history and mileage. They wear it well.

I'd ideally like to change to a newer estate Avensis as I've a dog and baby due imminently. I would consider importing one if possible.

I really like the one I’m looking at but am just unsure due to the fact that it has 185,000kms on it and while it has a full main dealer service history, this doesn’t mean that potential issues with DPF or whatever won’t happen.
From checking, the Avensis doesn’t seem to suffer from DPF issues.

I've never heard of them giving issues on that engine. It should be fine with the mileage but as ever it's a used car. Just check it over properly

I got my saloon from a main dealer 2.5 years ago. In that time I done 3 services and changed a €1 euro reg plate light bulb, couldnt recommend the reliability enought. Then 2 weeks ago engine lost power with a bad knocking noise and thick smoke out the exhaust. Turned out I needed 4 injectors costing €1511 euro. Now I do city driving and could also have been dodgy diesel. Comfort is average , dash layout and extras aint anything amazing. But with everything considered id still recommend them. If you want hassle free driving over a long space of time they are super. Nice to look at on the outside but not a head turner as such. And I think the emissions has a self cleaning system so they dont need work or clog up - what I was led to believe
