Anyone have experience of the Athens Marathon? I remember hearing it's very hilly, but it's one I'd like to do just for the experience. Aegean Airlines have direct flights ex Dublin on Fridays returning on Mondays.

Hi, I ran it last year and it is hilly; basically from kilometer 10 to 32 are all up hill, it's also warm (25C at the start). It's also not the prettiest race (you are running on dual carriageway for most of it). That said it is well worth the effort, the event is well organised and the support is great.

The flights are tricky as there are (or were) no direct flights to Athens in October and I ended up flying via frankfurt

Thanks for the info ConorJB :) one to consider in the future, if just purely to run to enjoy it, rather than go for a time I think. There are direct flights now with Aegean Air. Thanks again.

Missed out on the registration for Dublin 2019, quite fancy this one, but the heat, plus moderate but consistent uphill worry me. Not looking to break records, but I'll keep an eye out for the registration opening later in the year.

like yourself I have missed out on Dublin and am considering this. The uphill sections of this slightly concern me though.

Done it many moons ago. Whether was okay 15-20. Hill is a long drag along a Dual carriageway with level bits through one or 2 towns it looks worse on the profile. last 10K has very good support and downhill to the finish. Finish in the Original 1896 stadium makes up for the dual carriageway section. Well organised good support along the way definitely one to do
