Vietnam Airlines vs Thai

    Hi all,
Been a hike since I logged on here as I haven't been flying. Looks like I'll be doing a trip to Vietnam in the next couple of months though and there are two options, or so I've been offered two, to get there. One is a two-stopper with Thai (ORK-LHR-BKK-Hanoi) and the other is a one-stop (DUB-CDG-Hanoi) with Vietnam Airlines.

Both would have to be in economy. I know Thai have a decent reputation and if be flying on the A380 from London. Are Vietnam Airlines much better or worse?

Why are you limiting yourself to those airlines.
They would actually be my last choice to fly to Vietnam.
Qatar, Emirates and Turkish all fly one stop and are coming in cheaper and quicker journeys through out the summer on Skyscanner.

You say that you've been offered those two airlines.
Is someone paying for it, if not i'd use Skyscanner and pick a different airline.

I've flown both although Vietnam was only short haul, Thai were very good, I'd use them again no problem and found them just below Emirates and slightly better than Etihad. Vietnam airlines weren't brilliant on the short haul flight so wouldn't be too keen on them but might be a different kettle on a long hauler

To be honest Thai was the airline Trailfinders, the travel agent, gave a quote with. My own searches turned up Vietnam Airlines for that time period. I've never really booked with an agency before, I guess you can direct them to other flights?

I haven't booked with conventional travel shop since maybe 2004.

Skyscanner is a great website for getting the cheapest prices and the fastest routes and then i usually go with lastminute or ebookers or maybe even the airline website.

    Google.ie/flights

    is better than Skyscanner IMAO.

Interesting has pointed me to significantly cheaper fares through an OTA as opposed to aerlingus.com

I'm kinda amazed that people still use travel agents, what benefits do they offer.

Have a look at Seatguru.com to assess the aircraft, and airlinequality.com to assess the airline and decide for yourself.

With the proviso that people tend to be motivated to moan on review sites but where service is excellent to adequate busy passengers aren't as motivated to post
