    Hi there.

Approximately the last two months I've had quite bad pain and discomfort just above my belly button. There is a ball like feeling just above my belly button that sticks and and then disappears back in.

I have had it confirmed by two hospitals that it is a hernia. However, in one hospital I had a ultrasound and they said that there was a mass of 2.7 cm just directly above my belly button and said that it appears to be a paraumbilical hernia . In the second hospital where I had an endoscopy they said that I have a hiatus hernia.

All my symptoms match that paraumbilical hernia however not so much with the hiatus hernia, I've done some research and it says with a hiatus hernia your diet will affect it. That it causes heartburn, indigestion, stress. Which I don't have or get. The bulge that pushed out and back in doesn't happen up in that area but just above my belly button.

I am waiting for the second hospital to call me back in 4 weeks where they will decide what to do. The nurse said that the doctor most likely won't operate to rectify it.

The hernia is beginning to affect my every day life. Bending is becoming impossible due to the ball like feeling above my belly button, it causes pain and diccomfort and seems to be bringing me on the road to where it is actually not allowing me to bend, it's waking me multiple times throughout the night, some nights it doesn't allow me to sleep, there is constant pushing out, movement, kick like feelings from the inside, pain and just horrible diccomfort. Sitting can be difficult at times and the only relief I have is lying down. Sometimes it stops me in my tracks with a shooting pain if walking. Even at times it is quite impossible to lift my left leg as it causes pain. It's also confirmed that I am not pregnant. Both hospitals have confirmed hernia, but which one is it? They both day different types.

What do I do? Do I go back to my doctor before my hospital appointment in 4 weeks if it keeps it up. I don't think I could manage another day of it not to mind a few weeks.

Sounds like you have 2 separate hernias....

You can't feel a hiatus hernia from the outside, they're right inside you. I'm having mine done on Saturday!

Thank you for the reply. The doctor is unsure whether or not he is going to perform surgery. Should I put my foot down and request it be done? As the pain it causes me can be unbearable at times. It is just a day procedure isn't it?
