    If the candidates were;

    Dennis O'Brien or Bertie Aherne.

    I'd emigrate... :(

That's a real Kodos and Kang choice right there. I'd probably go O'Brien because if you vote for Bertie, he'll be pulling the strings anyway.

I voted for Michael d, so that's a proxy dob vote.

Who would vote for Sheriff of Nottingham? A very rich man who (effectively) stolen millions from the public.

I did hear really great things about him recently regarding charitable donations to Haiti.

Still wouldn't trust him an inch and think he belongs in jail.

All opinions are my own and not those of Boards.ie. Lawyers should track me down through the junk I have for sale in Adverts.

Over half a million people voted for Seán Gallagher in 2011, on the spurious grounds that he was some kind of 'entrepreneur' and had been on the telly. Those people would probably become even more starry eyed if Denis O'Brien ran.

So many people about to be sued...

It's kind of a nothing thread 'cos why would he bother? Though I've always said if Bertie looked like he was going to run unopposed, I'd ****ing run myself with the slogan : "I'm not Bertie."

Obvioulsy it'd depend who he was running against:

If against Michael D for example, DOB would not get my vote

If against Gerry Adams for example, DOB would certainly get my vote, in fact he'd get both my votes (old home address and address here in Cork) #voteoncevoteoften

Robin Hood was a terrorist. I always find it amusing that RH is seen as a good guy but if you asked people should we raise taxes on the rich to support the poor there would be outcry.

The fact that people are so opposed to RH’s policies in practice means DOB might actually have a fair shout. Sure he owns enough media to make sure he gets his message out

He'd be destroyed. Every sleazy corrupt bullying thing he did would be dragged up and disseminated. He'd be exposed for what he is, humiliated and rejected decisively at the polls (if he hung around for that).

He's too smart to run. Bertie will similarly get destroyed if it comes to it. Remember why Gallagher was undone in the end: because the stink of a brown envelope was raised, rightly or wrongly.

^^ Lloydy is right. Dobbo wouldn't run, not just because his walk-in skeleton closet would be comprehensively emptied in public, but because he's not a publicity and media whore. Being president has no power. It won't make him wealthy or allow him to make more money.

Running for President is a little bit like allowing your name to be published when you win the Lotto. Unless you've already been in the public sphere for a long time, why would anyone choose to be exposed like that?

    Ronan Mullen for president.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 482 ✭✭badtoro

No, I wouldn't vote for him. But I don't regard the presidency as something too important here so it's not like say if he was in the running for another office with real power. If all candidates were unpalatable I'd either not vote or spoil my vote.

So many people about to be sued...

May I add that until these opinions were espoused, I was ambivalent to the man, but now I am categorically and fervently opposed to any potential presidency he may hold such was the influence of these posters words upon me...
