    Hi All,
I have a Lenova Ideapad 320 that was hacked.
Luckily its quite new and most of my data is backed up, and I can afford to lose whatever unsaved documents.
Anyone any idea how to restore factory settings.
    Much appreciated.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12415/windows-10-recovery-options

Links at the bottom detail how to reset Windows 10 too.

What do you mean by "hacked"? That's something you don't hear of happening very much these days, so I would be curious to know if that's what happened or whether there could be something else at play here? Also there are ways to recover all your files, no matter what state Windows is in at the minute.

I opened an e mail and now this message comes up on screen

    ENCRYPTED BY GANDGRAB 3
YOUR FILES ARE UNDER STRONG PROTECTION BY OUR SOFTWARE. IN ORDER TO RESTORE YOU MUST BUY DECRYPTOR.

I only have a couple of documents on it which I dont need but cant open and have .grab at end of file name

Jesus that's a nasty one. Haven't see things like that since XP days, but obviously they're still around. Looks like chances of recovering files are quite slim at this point, some sites claim to be able to de-crypt files but I don't know how valid that claim is.

Obviously you don't need me to repeat this, but I will. Don't open attachments from unknown senders. Especially zip files.

What you want to do is reinstall Windows 10. You can download the Windows 10 ISO from the following Microsoft link:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10ISO

This doc explains this process pretty well:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/install-windows-from-a-usb-flash-drive

This all assumes you have another PC from which to do this.
