As above, which would have the edge?
Hardware seems to be pretty much the same from what I can see, price wise, 150 ish in the difference?

Or would it be better to hold out for the Mi 7 etc?

I've a mi Max 2,mi phones are fine, but don't update too often, and to get one unlocked,,you'd need connections,up to yesterday I'd have said the Nokia 7 plus is far better, but personally the lack of FM radio ISA deal breaker,. Motorola G6 plus is out soon, better than both I reckon

FM radio wouldn't be an issue for me really, I use Spotify mainly if I'm listening to music (30GB data)

The Xiaomi phones seem to be great for the price, but I'm well accustomed to Nokia's and their quality, build wise etc.

The current guise of Nokia has no reputation for quality, it’s not the same company, they’re coming from China like the rest of them. I would be more confident of the reliability of a Xiaomi than these new “Nokia” phones any day

While somewhat true, I think they will garner a reputation for quality in time. The Nokia 7 plus, compared to phones in or around the same price category feels much nicer and better quality than the competition.

Mind you, tha'ts not compared to Xiaomi, because shops don't stock them so I couldn't compare. Time will tell!

Just saw the 64GB version there on eglobal central EU site for around 240 with insured shipping, very tempting
I'd go for it over the Nokia 7+ because it's a bit lighter, and for rooting (still can't unlock Nokia bootloader afaik), probably cheaper too.
The lack of NFC and headphone jack doesn't really bother me (comes with adapter).

The lack of NFC in the Mi phones troubles me.

I've only ever used it with the Leap card app, BOI doesn't support NFC payments yet but I can see how it would be good.
