Critique this MX5 for me

I've been on the hunt for a two seater convertible for a while now. I started off looking at Boxsters, but the ones in my price range were a bit tired. I'm now set on an MX5. In terms of value, reliability and servicing it seems more sensible. I'll be trading my own car in against what ever I get, so I have a preference for a hardtop (security and daily driver reasons).

This seems to be in good nick

Anybody got any pointers on the car in question?

I'm also half considering going up North, would they take a southern car in trade? How screwed would I be on trade in? The car I'm trading is a good condition 07 Audi A4 1.8T, tax and test until October. Anyone have an idea on what to expect trade value wise (here and up north)?

    Lots of questions:)

Mx5 is slow enough isn't it?
0-60 over 9 seconds and 122mph top speed, but I'd say it feels faster.
They are meant to be great craic too.

Can't really criticize that particular car but more your choice of mx5 as a daily.

Are you sure you want to do that?

That's the nagging doubt. At least it's not a bank breaker decision

looks good, the mk3 prices seem to be tumbling lately, this looks top dollar. This looks to have the mechanical hard top, the Mk3 MX5s are nobody favourite model. but you might be able to save a good bit going to UK or NI, just check for rust.
i have a mk2 myself that i drove daily for 3 yrs and it was tough going at times. definetly not suited for motorway driving or long comuting. Great Great cars tho. Very customisable, well built easy to work on & genrally low maintenace

mk3 is a bad mx5 to pick, terrible actually, if you want more advice come over to mx5 ireland (fb page) and members there will help you out in minutes! i will not go into details why mk3 is ****, but it trully is, i know people who raced them (not anymore), who drove as daily, who fixed them and modded them, very few still bother and most moved onto ND (mk4) or NB/NA (mk1/mk2)

i think the mk3 shared a load of parts with ford and an nowhere near the build quality of the older ones. there critiqued as being a bit heavy & soft too and not much of a looker, the mK4 took a step backward reengineering the car and reshrunk it back inline with the Mk1 design

Too late now lads, the cars sitting on my driveway. happy with it so far (hopefully that feeling lasts)

Had a long look at an '07 MK3 in a Peugeot garage up north last weekend for £3950. Looked well and came with a small garage warranty - presumably not much use down south but after doing the maths it would have been about €5k to get it onto the drive. Not worth it I thought.

It was a soft top not a folding tin top, which might have swung it.
