    Hi

We have a grundfos pump over our underfloor heating. Since it was installed it comes on when no tap or water is running- this is approx going on a year. Some times it could be every few hours - other times every few minutes. There is no pattern to it.

The plumber has been out and checked all the connections and couldn’t find a leak. Where do I go from here- it drives me nuts

It’s a grundfos pm 1 pump. The pressure on the clock is at 30.

You mention underfloor heating and taps in relation to the pump? Why? Is it a pump for the water supply and because no taps are being used, you suspect it may be refilling the heating water circulation system?

Things to check: Could any of the toilet cisterns be overflowing, very slightly? In fact, could a cistern valve be worn and it's filling very slowly, then retriggering the pump intermittently? Etc etc. Could isolate some things temporarily to try to get to the bottom of it... Also, why not really watch the pressure guage for a bit to see if or when pressure drops...

Yes it’s the pump for water supply. The cisterns don’t actually cause the pump to go - it’s only all the taps and shower. I will watch the pressure on the pump. I placed tissue under all the taps to see was there any leaks also and none.

Perhaps a non return valve letting by.

How would I find this out- I had the plumber out who installed it and he was no help. I have to go find another one and that will be hard cos no one wants these small jobs.

Ok, I get you now. Some smart pumps go through a self-priming cycle if there's an issue but usually have lights to indicate this. Pressure and flow sensors can go faulty as well.

Would be interesting to use any valves (red taps or levers) after the pump to isolate say the hot water, cold water etc. and quickly rule out leaks from different things.

I watched the booster pump and made sure no water was running- the pressure dial on the pump does not move when the pump runs. Does this mean the pump is the problem ?

you should have a valve on the outlet to isolate the system this way ou can confirm it's the pump and not a leak. what pump is it

It’s a grundfos pump - I’m on my phone and it won’t let me put up a pic so I’ll put up one later.
