I've just realised the problem with After Hours

A lack of paid moderators (joke!)

When I started on Boards.ie (not related to date on my Avatar) After Hours was primarily the fun/irreverent forum/area. Topic creep, and the expectation shift* has diluted 'what it's all about, man'.

Now, either through laziness or thinking, "yeah this is the right forum for this" because of what others have posted here it's now a catch all forum. Look at the current threads on here (possibly including this one :o ) and what are their 'After Hours' attributes? I'm not going to single out any particular threads, but it's hardly the Thunderdome these days, is it? So, it partly the posters fault for ... what's the reverse of 'dumbing down' ?:D

Finally, After Hours was much more than Blast yore Ma with Piss while kicking her in the face - they are only colourful vignettes trying to encapsulate the mad bastard fun that was had.

Where do I get my free coke and hookers *Bonus pints for buzz words?

TL/DR Less seriousness, more mad bastard stuff. There are plenty other forums for your most profound thoughts.

My very not-serious thread about loving Jay Leno and his passion for hobbies, got moved the most serious forum on the site.

When I look at AH, I think it's a pity a man and his love for cars can't be a thread.

Why does AHs get so much stick! So many other forums its 'take it to AHs', or 'this is not AHs'.

Yes we might be the 'blast your ma with piss' forum, but alot of us dont fit in anywhere for the serious serious serious conversation. If we tried some of our arguements else where, we might get laughed at, or bambozzled with jargon, and over the head fact. At least here, we can have a serious conversation, or chat, but like you would down the pub.

Hmm, we may need to instigate a breathalyser test - 'Blow into this, sir... keep going... keep going. Right, I'm sorry to say, sir, you're not drunk enough to post in After Hours. Be a good lad now, and get a couple of more drinks into ya.'
