Upstream oxygen sensor - car won't start

My Dad drives a 1.2L prom Renault Clio and last week he took it to the garage who diagnosed a fault with the upstream oxygen sensor. They earned him that the cast might be difficult to start.

He then drive 200 km to my place for the long weekend and on Saturday morning the car wouldn't start. I tried jump leads but no joy there

So question for the mechanics out there. In your experience, would an UOS issue cause the car not to start?

Very unlikely. If you've been trying jump leads then I take it it's not turning over? which is 100% not related to the o2 sensor.

If it's not turning over and jump leads aren't working make sure all the terminals you are connecting to are clean and getting a good connection. If you've still no joy, it's often the case that low quality, thin jump leads just won't work on a battery that is very very flat. Are you getting dash lights? Maybe you could push start it.

Dash lights are fine, jump leads are high quality, in use weekly to jump cars in a breaker's yard.

The car makes a few wheezing noise on turning the ignition but not even a splutter add of its about to turn over. Haven't tried push start but it doesn't sound like that's likely to work at all.

My main query was around where the UOS issue would really cause the car to not start. Must be something else up at the same time. Maybe the UOS error is just symptomatic of something bigger.

Does the engine crank over as normal?

Starter motor bud seen afew fail on the clios get someone to turn the key while u hit the starter motor a tap I’ll put money on it with u she will go. The 02 sensor has nothing got to do with that issue whatsoever

No crank on the motor at all, just wheezing noise...

Will have a look at the starter motor tomorrow :)

Yes this noise will be coming from the starter as I’ve stated b4

Yup that sound like it could be a dodgy starter solenoid, had it recently in my own car.

Never got a chance to look into this today as it's my Dad's car and this morning he insisted on having it tired back to Dublin (covered on his breakdown package). Will be interested to hear what the garage say.

    Thanks all.
