Hi, I have a two year old neutered male cat. I have an option of a new kitten. I've often thought of getting him a bit of company. Are there any major worries here? Male dominance even though neutered? Male or female kitten?

    Thanks.

Actually with cats it's usually females who're the dominate once; what you need to consider for your current cat is high spots to get away from the kitten as they can be very energetic and never want to stop play which may annoy him. Hence high spots that he but the kitten can't get to is required in all relevant areas. Male or female kitten should in your case not be a major issue; the more difficult pairing is usually female/female combos.

Giving them time to get used to each other is paramount. For the little one to learn what is and what is not acceptable behaviour

I once brought a new kitten in to a staid household of three mature cats and as soon as he saw them all fast asleep in the sun? He leapt on the heap for sheer fun. Never saw those cats move as fast and with such horror on their furry faces. BUT there was no aggression as all had their own space.

And give each a safe place especially if you are not there. The new one slept in my room the others in the other room.
