    Hi

Just missed out on an m135i, so now looking at alternatives such as the m235i. Im looking at buying one about 4 yrs old, however it seems all things being equal, the m235i is demanding a premium of about 5k, does this seem right?

Given that it's now its own designated coupe model compared to the 1 series (i.e. the 3 series vs 4 series) the premium doesn't sound off. There's also the same kind of premium on the 4 series compared to the 3.

Thanks for the reply. I get it but given that the price difference when new is only around 5-6k, I'd have thought when 4 yrs old the difference would be negligible?

The 2 Series coupe will always be more desirable than the 1 Series hatchback so desirability will always command a premium. You probably have to compare spec too. I could see a high spec M235i commanding near 5k more than a low spec M135i.

Agree with that, but all things being equal (miles, spec, condition) im seeing an indy dealer charging 6k more for 235I then a bmw dealer for a 135I..im interested in the 235I but struggling to justify the extra spend.

M cars don't really follow the same depreciation rules as standard BMWs from what I see.
I'd say both are holding up value pretty well are they?

What's your sample size when coming up with the 235i being 6k more than 135i ?
I wouldn't say there's many around and what's rare is hard to put a price on...

Yeah I know. Like the M760Li, you're fooling nobody bmw!
    That's why I said 235i and 135iðŸ˜

I'd be personally going back a few years for an m3 but that's just me. OK wants one of these so let him at it

Actually the M760Li is a real M car.

    I’d buy the 135 a de-badge it. Cracking motor and most people will think it’s a 116D.

235i handles better (according to online reviews) and looks better, would be my choice unless you needed the 5 doors.

Do many of these come up for sale?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,439 ✭✭✭Wailin

No, very rare model in this country. Those that do are snapped up quickly.

Was it yourself who linked that and said you were buying it a few days afterwards?

Yep, although I wasn't quite that categorical, I thought there was a reasonable chance I'd buy it though. In the end it was missing a few bits of spec which I really wanted so I left it.

Was one of those bits Extended Storage? Having it in my current F30 I'd never be without it again. Kind of odd to see them without at least the little cubby hole under the light switch.

I had a look at that car and the first thing I noticed was the bog standard sat nav system. Hard to settle for that after seeing the professional 1. Ended up going for a 142 , higher spec and fair bit cheaper.

Yea the standard sat nav and no upgraded sound system were the two things that put me off. That plus price which I thought was quite over the odds.

That's now down to €35k should anyone be interested in it. Pretty reasonable considering what they cost new.

Looks lovely, and there's definitely plenty of spec, but even if I had the money, I wouldn't buy it because it's an automatic.

I get what ye're saying about the satnav screen as well but that wouldn't bother me that much.

Having driven quite a few BMW's with that autobox, X models, 4's 1's, 5's etc I wouldn't in the slightest discount it just because it was an auto.

If it was a diesel I'd be in complete agreement with you, I was in an F10 520d with that box recently and I have no doubt that it is an excellent gearbox but for something like an M235i I'd want the added interaction of a manual.

I know many people think BMW manual gearboxes are a bit pants and to be fair they're not the nicest of manuals as standard, but that's because of the clutch delay valve, deleting it transforms the box and increases the life of the clutch for good measure.
