Quite a lot of play in the drivers side rear axle bearing. Have been told it won't pass the van test. Any experience and what are the best options. New axle bearing or full second hand or refurbished axle?

You need a full refurb axle

Had this type of thing happen a few years back with a peugeot 206.

Very common problem with them. Crowed in Kilkenny called Ruths supply refurbed axles.
    That's where I got mine.

Think it was about 350euro & another 100 to get it fitted. You also need to give them your old axle.

Chances are that there's a firm that does this up your neck of the woods.

We also use Ruth motorsport for axles, only got one there last week :) they may post OP?

The 206 axle is much smaller than a partner one so is cheaper and easier to fit. I would expect 300-350 for an axle (any cheaper and it will be junk) and about 200 to fit.

Thanks for the replies guys. Was kinda hoping for a second hand axle from a scrappy. But thinking about it now the newest one available would be 10 years old and may well have or shortly have the same issue. So guess the chances of finding one that is in good shape is slim?

Would it be worth chancing it through the van test in the hope they don't pick up on it?
