I have a mini dish and a Freesat receiver. Most channels are perfect but some (e.g. ITV HD) have a low quality signal and others (e.g. QUEST) have no signal at all. Anyone know what could be causing this? Do I need a bigger dish? Is my alignment a bit out? Any help appreciated!

it more like the dish at fault. 60 cm dish is the best to have to receive all the channels anything smaller u will get most of the channels but not all like quest blaze dave etc

By 'mini dish', you mean the elliptical type Sky use? What size is it from top to bottom?

It's possible your alignment is a bit off.

Is it an actual Freesat branded receiver you have? If not, maybe the channels with no signal at all are tuned to incorrect frequencies.

Are you definitely in Dublin Paul? The further west you go, the bigger the recommended dish (generally speaking)

Often a faulty LNB as it doesn't switch to the high / low or vertical horizontal. Very common fault.

You mean common as a proportion of LNB faults, or just common fullstop?

Wouldn't have thought much goes wrong with them at all.

I'd suggest you check all the channels you are missing to see if they have anything in common such as all being Horizontal polarization for example. You can do this on www.lyngsat.com , if they have nothing in common then it could be dish alignment as the guys have suggested.

If you find a number of channels with a common issue such as same horizontal polarisation, what is the likely remedy

Usually the LNB is faulty although in rare cases it can be the cable not passing the higher voltage or the set top box itself not sending the higher 18v parameter to the LNB

I had this problem and a new LNB was the solution. Turned out the plastic cover on the LNB had rotted away and water had got into the LNB. The LNB is probably OK if it got a new plastic cover but it is not worth bothering with. The water caused the loss of either H or V, cannot remember which.

Water and UHV rotting the plastic is your enemy.
