    Other than fb?

Yahoo IMS used to be my way. I've just hooked up with someone, on there. The format is now abysmal!

No control over font size. Smileys are jank. It's like a really piss poor fb.

I just want to be able to chat to some mates. Real time. No third party moderation. No hassle.

Is there any way, these days, please? IMS? Free Chat Rooms that don't require ye to have a web site of ye own? Some sort of noise / pop up, to let ye know ye had company, would be sublime, obviously, too.

    Thanks.

(Even if I'll not hold my breath. Way the internet's going :()

What's app is the obvious choice. GroupMe is an option too.

Both can be used on a PC/tablet

Try WhatsApp or Snapchat, or if you want to be anonymous Kik

Whooooah! Okay. Brilliant, to get a response, virtually as I post my question.

But; What is this witchcraft of which you speak?!?

" What's Ap "? I've seen that mentioned, in the on line media. Just disregarded it as another way for young / stupid people to draw attention to their wrong doings.

Okay. I'll google this scary schit. By this time tomorrow, anyway.

Unfathomable that things could have moved on, in the last couple of decades :o

    Thanks!

Hangouts for anyone with Gmail. I like it as it can be used on a phone and laptop and the message history is on both. I don't know why it isn't as popular as it should be as you can create groups in it.

:D Okay, everyone. Just to stitch this on, for anyone happening upon this thread, looking for the same?

    1. I tried " WhatsApp ". Found it needed to do stuff via my phone, as well as my computer. Then, my phone basically said; FULL! I got rid.

    2. I found " Telegram ". Like WhatsApp ~ and, seemingly, anything else today ~ it wanted my mobile's number. I'm getting used to this.

My friend, in Kiwi, got the same. We chatted. Utilised some of a great range of smileys. (Good to see them back!) Oh, how we laughed!

When I hit her with the Freddie Mercury and Che Guevara ones@ She nearly died!

Clicked a few more buttons. Heard " 'Allo? ", in a distinctly New Zealand accent, coming out of my speaker?

We / this 'App' has our #'s. Was it using our phone bills, to do that?

    I don't have a mike. I couldn't answer her. I have Never laughed so hard! :D

Should I buy a mike? Where does the bill for this sort of thing go
