I remember commenting on a GTA V vid shortly after games release. I said that GTA IV had better driving.

I was hit with nasty replies for months, was called a fag, thick twat, retard.

When I replied back trying to defend myself, threats were made against my life.

Frustrated nerds for the most part I presume.

Hardly surprising to be fair, the comments section on youtube is an absolute cesspit.

Nope but I haven't commented more than a few times.

Can't say I've ever had the displeasure! I usually stick to the less controversial channels though.

Yup, all the time but usually on my channel.

I've one particular clip with almost 100k views which I take a bit of stick on. I usually leave it be, the one posting the crap is usually making a fool of themselves but I do delete a block a lot of the more serious, nasty users.

Try playing GTA V online. Youtube is a creche in comparison.
Saw on imgur recently a pm sent to someone who caused his team to lose a deathmatch; went along the lines of "i hope you're a n*gger and the klan get you". I thought it was funny but i take none of it seriously.

I think all of this twitter, youtube, whatever online community abuse stuff it taken way too seriously. Do you realise that it's impossible to police and if it were it would mean that anyone who signs up to any of these platforms would have to give up their identity to police it properly - i.e show a passport image of yourself to have an account, stipulated in law. Absolute nonsense.

When YouTube was relatively new and I didn't know anything about the comment section I thought it might be fun to upload a few videos of myself playing guitar. Shortly afterwards the abuse started rolling in. I disabled comments so instead idiots started messaging me.

Then someone started making his own videos and 'dedicating' them to me. The description of these videos would be paragraphs about how I should kill myself, not only that but lies about my personal life. At the same time another YouTube member was acting like he loved my videos. One day it became blatantly obvious they were the same person. I reported the fucker for his comments about how I should kill myself. The message I got back from YouTube was "Sorry but this is not against our community guidelines".

A couple of days later I deleted every single video I had uploaded and deleted my account. Not because of the comments, but because I didn't want to be a member if a website where telling someone to kill themselves wasn't "against their community guidelines". If that isn't against community guidelines what the fuck is?

For a couple of years I wouldn't even look at a YouTube video. I still wouldn't upload anything there.
