Ride on mower not engaging drive properly

I have a john deere sabre rg1028 ride on. Just today it started driving very slow, hardly moving at times. I put it against a wall in first gear and it spun the wheels but in higher gears it is very slow.
    Any ideas?

Most likely the drive belt is slipping.

Either there is an idler pulley not engaging or tie belt itself is worn and stretched causing it to slip.

Was thinking similar but was surprised it spun the wheels against the wall on a hard surface but maybe it was the lower gear that did it. Would have thought the belt would be after the gear box?
