    Hi all,

Is the old methodology of draining the battery of a new device before fully charging it needed still with new battery technology?

Is is still important to fully discharge a battery every few charges?

Actually with Lithium Ion batteries it's best not to fully discharge them. I think it's recommended to keep them between 20-80% of charge for optimise lifetime, ie. only discharge to about 20% and only charge to about 80%. Full discharge should only be done when calibrating the battery.

They also don't have the battery memory effect found in the old nickel cadmium batteries so there's no issue with partial discharge/charge.

Keeping it continually on charge (more of a problem with laptops, and older laptops at that) can also reduce the battery life.
