    Hey guys,

My girlfriend's masters degree graduation is the start of July and I'm just wondering if I have any other options other than a suit to wear to it? Or is that the staple?

    Cheers.

Smart attire, but I wouldn’t say it has to be a suit.

Thanks. Was thinking maybe ditching the tie and blazer.

Got a nice black patterned smart shirt. The shirt itself is black and the pattern is white. What are my trouser options other than grey/black? I've seen nice grey checked trousers but it'll be too much with the pattern shirt so need a solid colour.

    Thanks again, guys.

To be honest there's nothing smarter than a well tailored navy suit, white / light blue shirt, and dark tie. With polished black or dark brown shoes. You'll look great and your girlfriend will appreciate the effort made. Pop in a colourful pocket square to make it more fun (just don't match it to your tie).

A black patterend shirt sounds horrendous IMHO.

Depending on the OP's usual style, that may be a bit OTT & the black pattern shirt may be spot on... It all depends on what the OP feels comfortable wearing.

For guys who wear smart/business wear day in day out your suggestion wouldn't be a huge leap, but for the likes of my boyfriend, who is a builder & would normally be either in work-wear covered in mortar or wearing jeans & a tshirt, it would be. If he showed up in a suit I'd think he was dropping by on his way to a wedding!

Yeah, I wear business/ business casual day-to-day so thanks for understanding me wanting to change it up a bit Sinister Kid :p

I was just looking online at latest smart trends and a lot seem to be wearing floral/ print shirts with trousers so that was my inspiration.

For a guest at a masters a suit would be the usual. If you wear business casual day to day then it also shows your other half that you recognise it is a special day for her.

I'm on a mission to get more men wearing suits!
