VW golf 1.6 TDI Egr and Dpf

My mechanic told me that my car needs an EGR replacement and replacing that will cause the DPF to need to be replaced, but that can be bypassed. The job will cost nearly €1000.

I’m looking it up online and there are places that can by pass both the EGR and DPF, has anyone done this?

Apparently the EGR replacement is very common with Golf Mark VI.

You should be able to get the EGR replaced and the DPF removed and cleaned (if needed, may not be) for close to €1000. That way you're not interfering with the emissions control system and your car is kept as it was intended.

Sooner or later the NCT will include a test to determine if the DPF has been removed or tampered with.

The egr replacement alone is about 1000 for genuine, they are expensive and labour intensive to fit.

Vw are covering the egr if the software has been updated for the emissions scandal. (Friend good it done on a 1.6 tdi mk6 golf 6 months ago.)

"Sooner or Later" .... how long is a piece of string.

If or when this DPF check is ever introduced, it will likely be a copy of the UK's MOT requirement UK - i.e a Visual check for the presence of a physical DPF. I doubt the boys at our NCT will check if the DPF has been gutted and software bypassed ;)

The UK used to do just a visual check. Now they are checking the emissions to determine whether the DPF is still present.

    How do they do this?

    Are you sure about that.

    @OP.
If you've gotten the fix vw should fix it for free.
If not get the egr blanked, bypass but leave in situ the dpf and get it remapped. Job done.

They don't say how they check it. They just say it's a major fault if the tester can find evidence that the DPF has been tampered. You can also be fined over there if you drive a car with a knowingly tampered DPF.

Before it was just a visual inspection, if it looked like it was there, that was enough.

Meanwhile in Ireland we still don't even have a visual DPF check just scaremongering Pub talk about what the UK are planning to introduce. - so yeah DPF gutting is still a viable option for DPF related issues. (now and for the foreseeable future)

If my car ever gave me any DPF issues, I'd have absolutely no hesitation in replacing it with a downpipe and getting it remapped.

So a lower limit on the smoke test.

And a very open ended statement about visual smoke.

I'd say a blanked egr and bypassed dpf would still pass that.
