Bringing Alcohol Over Limit Outside of EU

Hi All,

Currently here in India and want to bring few bottles of spirits home.

Checked out the websites and they tell me about the limits:
If you're arriving in Ireland from outside the EU, you can bring in certain goods free of duty subject to these limits:
"1 litre of spirits (more than 22%) or 2 litres of intermediate products (e.g. port, sherry, etc. but not sparkling wine)
Customs duty, excise duty and VAT (sales tax), where applicable, are charged on goods in excess of the duty-free allowances."

Table: Special travellers' rate (see above for which you are permitted to use this)
[th]Description of the goods[/th]
[th]Import duty[/th]
[th]Excise duty[/th]
[th]VAT[/th]
[th]Spirits and liquor[/th]
2,5%
€ 6.41 per liter
€ 1.52 per liter
As spirits here are about 2euro a bottle could I bring back say 4 bottles of spirits and pay the above charges as long as I can provide a receipt for the items purchased to calculate the taxes to be added?
Am i missing anything here?
Do I have to pay 6.41 for excise duty regardless of the cost of the item?

Looks like excise duty could be a lot more than €6.41 per bottle. See here:-

"Alcohol Products Tax rates Spirits

€42.57 per litre of alcohol in the spirits"

I proactively declared a couple of extra bottles at Dublin airport a few months ago and was charged about €16 per bottle. At 40% ABV, that seems consistent with the €42 per litre alcohol price.

I didn’t push them for a detailed breakdown, as I figured I probably technically owed VAT as well so I paid the €16 per bottle and left.

FYI: Customs at the airport told me they only accept cash, no cards or cheques, but they’ll hold the bottles for 30 days for you if you don’t have the cash to hand.

Finally, they honestly didn’t seem interested in charging me and seemed to be trying their level best not to give me a silly bill for a few bottles of booze brought back from a holiday.

Thanks to both of ye for the replies, Here in India at the moment and bottles are around 1-2 euro ! just wanted some for presents!
Wanted to do it the honest way of declaring them and paying the taxes but typical Rip-off Ireland.

Roads aren't actually that bad, the driving and no rules policy is the mad thing!  Kinda remind me or those really bad country roads you just don't drive as they are too bad!

Hospitals are actually amazing compared to Limerick where I am from, in a 5km radius around my hotel have about 10 hospitals been to two so far and the service was amazing! Had a chest infection and got a ECG/All the usual tests/ Echo Cardiograph in about 1.30hrs, I have waited longer for food in a restaurant. In terms of quality, I can only compare them to the old part of the Regional hospital in either Limerick or Kerry if you are familiar with those.

It's easier to say there is no welfare system over here - No sick pay, No state pension, No unemployment benefit, they do get free health care, so you either work or die really.
