Hi guys, looking to explore the Wicklow mountains this summer via running. Any compass recommendations or will any old compass do? Also, any map recommendation? I see maps for the Wicklow Mountains but also maps for South Wicklow and South East. Thanks in advance.

Without a doubt the best maps you can get are the ones from EastWest mapping. They have a range covering the whole of the Wicklow mountains, including several based on very recent 2017/18 foot surveys . Get the water-resistant paper versions and they'll last longer. Greater detail than the OSI maps, and much better analysis of local placenames, forts, oddities, if thats your thing.

Can't help you with compass recommendations, sorry! Best of luck exploring El D, its a great part of the world.

The SILVA Type 4 compass is pretty much the standard for mountain navigation.
