Upskilling English/learning support/sen

    Hi all,

I just returned to subbing after Christmas after a 4 yr break to start a family. Had been subbing since ‘06. I didn’t intend on returning for another year or two but ended up that way and unfortunately I have missed all English JC training in my area. Would anybody know if there are any training days nationwide that I could attend? I’m anxious about interviewing this summer in the hopes of getting on a panel without having done that training on the new cycle.

I also want to upskill to include special educational needs/ learning support and resource to my CV. I’m not in a position to relocate so having only one subject (English) I’m not very hopeful for hours locally unless I add some strings to my bow and I think this area would be best suited to me having done it over the years and enjoyed it.

Would it be advisable to do the SNA course? Or would other courses be more beneficial. I really am only starting out I feel so all and any advice is greatly appreciated.

One more thing .. I tried to join TUI this week. As a sub with no set hours they referred me to head office to see if there was anything they could do? I was quite shocked to learn I can’t simply join as a sub :/ any other subs come across this? I’m in an etb school so as far as I’m aware it’s better to be tui.

    Thanks in advance :)

Your local education centre will be running training days for new junior cycle in September , so contact them or ask the JC coordinator in your school if they can register you for it.
I don't think an SNA course would be beneficial at all. Why don't you look up online SEN courses or part time ones in your area.
