I wondering if anyone is experiencing engine problems with a Hyundai i40. My son has a 5 year old i40 which had to have a new engine fitted just before the 5 year warranty expired last November. The car broke down just after Christmas while he was visiting Cork and had to be towed back to Dublin. It was fixed by the garage is Dublin free of charge on that occasion. They said it was some fuel injection problem The car has broken down again and has to be towed back to Dublin from Fermoy. The Dublin dealer is now saying that it is a problem with Hyundai and/or the diesel in Ireland!!

If any it seems like a diesel problem in Co.Cork.

The diesel was purchased in Dublin on all occasions.

It seems to be the same problem again that led to the engine replacement last November ie. diesel getting into oil system. The blocked Diesel Particulate Filter is a symptom which is what caused the engine to stop working on this occasion.

I found this on a UK Hyundai users website "First repair was to replace High pressure fuel pump (Engine end), apparently the seal goes where it meets the timing chain (driven by the Chain), this allows diesel to leak into the engine! Hence the excess amount of diesel in my oil. Hyundai warranty have agreed to replace the engine!! .. a new ECU (stops overfuelling), New EGR (completely blocked), and a new inlet manifold (it was so clogged up from the excess oil and fuel that it was struggling to work! And the fault diagnosis for all the work - A porous Engine!! New tech bulletin gone out to dealers as apparently this is becoming an issue with them! Tell tell signs are a loss of water in header tank, and a bubbling of the water left in the header tank."

The dealer in Dublin still does not know what to do. Has anyone else experienced this problem with a Hyundai diesel engine?
