Hi all, I have found a lovely Audi A6 S-Line Avant, S-Tronic. I like the price but it's a UK reg but with full Audi service. Just wondering if I am thinking a bit crazy but instead of buying an extended warranty etc. with the car that I would just bring it to Audi to have it get a major service and so get cover from them for a year on road side assistance etc.?

Not sure what Audi offer but I know with my current Ford that once it was serviced with them I would get decent cover.

Anyone have any thoughts or experiences they could share?

    Thanks!

Roadside assistance is nowhere near the same as a warranty. Roadside assistance will tow the car to the nearest garage but you will still have to pay to have it repaired.

Point taken, it’s coming with 6 months standard and option of using Mapfre annual at 285 a year but I am not keen in that. Think I will just get an Audi look over on the car once bought and just look after it from there. Thanks

Yeah I definitely wouldn't waste money on a Mapfre. You'd be better off putting the price of the warranty under the mattress for a year.

The roadside assist does offer peace of mind that if the car packs in you won't be stranded. They will recover you to the nearest main dealer and they will cover you for a courtesy car too. The cost to repair is still yours but if you are continuing to service with the main dealer and a big unexpected occurs then you'll likely get a goodwill offering.

    What age/ mileage is it?

Its late 2014 and got about 55k km on the clock so it's a fresh car, I am a big fan of dealership servicing...maybe foolishly so....still take my 12 year old Focus to Ford...best 12 year old car on the road!

How do those S-Tronics compare to a BMW ZF box?

    S-tronic is very reliable.

With that mileage, and MD servicing, the chances of anything going wrong with an A6 are very slim - I wouldn't waste money on the warranty, just keep it serviced correctly.

ZF box is reliable too, I've on my car with one and no issues to report.

    I'd agree, I wasn't claiming it wasn't!
