1.9 TDI or 2.0 TDI?

Hey, I am thinking to buy a 2008-2009 Seat Laon II with one of the engines as shown in the Title. I heard that 1.9 TDI are really tanky/good engines, and not sure about 2.0 but from what I saw is that Passat's with 2.0 had problems if I look at my friend's that owned them. Any opinions or any other recommendations on VW engine cars (1.9 TDI) for under 3.500k? as that's my limit. Thanks

Depends on which versions of both engine your looking at. With 2008 to 2009 the 1.9 TDi might have be the one with the BXE engine code which is notorious for a conrod shooting through the engine block and killing it. Not sure if this engine was fitted to the Leon but it's something to be aware of.

2008 or 2009 would also have been the changeover year that VAG rolled out the new 2.0 TDi CR engines which replaced the more troublesome previous 2.0 TDi PD engines. Again not sure when the Leon got these.

The reliability of the 1.9tdi is overrated. They give their fair share of issues in reality. If the 2.0 is the cr engine i'd go for that tbh.

Go for the 2.0 CR as mentioned about we have a 08 1.9 Tdi Leon with 260km on the clock and its a BXE engine funnily enough no issues at all.

2009 i think is when they went Common Rail with the facelift model 1.6 replaced the 1.9 although there are few with the 1.9

At that age engine condition rather than type would be much more important .
