Red light question

    Hi,

    I have a question regarding a red light:

    Coming out of this street and turning right to the main road where there is traffic light . Should the driver in situation stop even though that traffic light appear to be aimed at the cars that are already on the main road and there is no dedicated space for stopping (e.g stopping at that line will block traffic)?

    Thanks

    The green light allows you "through" the junction. The red light you see when you are in it is for motorists on the main road - you don't stop for it.

    I have a follow up question: What's the main reason for having 2 traffic lights aimed at the motorists on the main road? They have traffic lights right next to the line where they need to stop and a 2nd one which I talked about in the first post.

    Thanks

    Off the top of my head;

    - where there is a pedestrian crossing on the far side of the junction
    - possibly on some large busy junctions, a driver may have advanced forward in heavy slow traffic on a green light but then get an amber/red. He/she then wouldn't be able to see the first lights.
    - when there is a stand alone filter light (e.g. left turn only green) there is also an additional set of lights at the far side of the junction with no filter light.

    Good thread OP. This is a really common mistake, even by fully licensed drivers.

    If there's no stop line in front of the lights then it's all part of the same junction.
