Ford Focus whining noise

Just wondering if my power steering is shot again or do I need to top up the fluid... I had the power steering fluid reservoir replaced a few months ago because it was cracked somehow, but today the whining noise came back stronger than ever, I checked under the hood and the reservoir is completly empty... Iv probably done approx 2k to 3k since this work was done. Is this normal?? (its a 2007, approx 115k, timing belt etc done) Should I be topping up this fluid that often or has something else crapped out. Obviously without visual inspection its impossible to tell etc etc mostly cause I need the car for work (fairly light driving 30 to 50km) was wondering should I take it to a garage asap or would it be ok to drive it for a couple of days and or maybe top up the fluid myself?

It's not normal for power steering fluid levels to drop like that. I've never had to top up power steering fluid on any car I've owned.

I've replaced power steering fluid at reccomended service intervals and there's been no loss of fluid between service intervals.

There's a leak somewhere in your power steering system. Running it with such a low level of fluid could result in damage to the power steering pump.

I'd top it up to the correct level and get it looked at by a garage as soon as possible to reduce the chances of it causing more problems.

Power steering pipes are prone to leaking on the focus near the rack.

They actually split right on the bend coming off the pump and I bet that's what happened here

Yep turned out to be those pipes alright, very frustrating! Topped it up and have it booked in for a full repair next week.

You really can't drive it at all though in the meantime, the fluid will be empty in seconds again and damage will be done!
Pipes are 125 euro and about an hour to fit
