Restoring Period Ceilings and Plasterwork

The home we've bought is full of period features on the ceilings - cornicing, moulding etc, and the ceilings themselves aren't in good nick. Our aim would be to preserve the originals as best we can. There don't seem to be many options for this kind of specialised work. Has anyone dealt with a specialist on this, someone they'd recommend? Currently we're being quoted about €1,500 per ceiling for consolidation via a 'wire and washer' method, which involves applying temporary washers across the ceilings in chessboard format before filling in cracks using lime plaster.

The guy quoting us seems very good and professional, but given it's an expensive process we'd like to be sure we're getting value for money, if anyone has any opinions?

    Thanks a mill.
