Can you explain a bit more? Why did you give them your credit card details if it was a free trial?
Anything in the fine print to warn that this would happen?

I didn't read the fine print unfortunately and the card details were for the price of shipping the sample.
Hardly a scam to be fair. The fact you had to supply credit card details for a free sample would have been the prompt/red flag to read t and cs carefully.
