Perfect if you're looking for a Facebook machine, something to watch Netflix on or maybe some light MS Office work. Id get it for my mam if she was looking for a laptop.

3 year warranty is brilliant too, so keep the receipt.

And USB ports. It's not really a laptop for someone who needs a lot of storage.

not awful on the storage side - 64gb for windows is a lot better than 32gb where you'd have problems updating windows.

    the processor is dire though
    passmark benchmark of only 1285
    https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Atom+x5-Z8350+%40+1.44GHz&id=2774
really need 2500 or above for smooth windows operation

2gb ram is really on the low side for windows 10 - 4gb the absolute minimum really these days. more than 1 tab open in a browser and it would be in trouble and paging data out and back from disk.
it's LPDDR3 ram which is probably not up-gradable and if it was it's actually quite expensive.

    I wouldn't buy it.

Its a net book not a laptop. (Medion E4242 I think)

They are ok if you want something very light, that you can type something on, or get on the web with a keyboard. Basic stuff. Basic Video watching.
It won't replace a regular laptop or desktop if you are doing anything more advanced.

I have a 2GB 11" netbook, which I rarely use, but can be handy if you need to throw something in the bag.
The kids keep using for homework, or to hit a website for school as it always has battery and is so light.

    I'd prefer the 14" screen.

Its about the same as low to mid end core2duo in a laptop from about 10yrs ago but with much better graphics. So it will handle video whereas an old machine won't.

I've not found 2GB of a ram a problem for light browsing a few tabs. Might depend on the websites you are hitting though.

I also wouldn't really buy it - you can get an identical laptop with 4GB ram online for less at the very least, but really that crap processor/2GB ram combo is the major no for me.

The 64GB storage isn't a problem I don't think for the type of people it's aimed at.

EG for the same money this is vastly superior - better CPU, more ram, more storage.

The cpu is dual core and scores 1128....

More ram and more usb 3 ports though.

this one is well recommended as the best execution of that sort of product (this guy covers all sort of budget laptops and is very comprehensive)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVOo9weCkOo

(64gb version reviewed here quoted at 250 usd. I've linked the 128gb version below as it's on offer currently and cheaper than the 64gb version which is actually lessor quality mmc as opposed to ssd )

6gb ram. cpu that scores 1830 and runs well in the laptop. 128gb ssd in the link below (so decent amount of fast storage). full hd IPS screen. all metal case. good quality keyboard and precision touchpad (which is rare in these sort of laptops and often glossed over). light at only 1.2kg. very well-designed and build overall it seems from the reviews.

would have to buy from china tho so taking a risk of course but have not seen reported quality problems. 246 euro currently for the 128gb version - you may or may not get caught for customs depending on the shipping which would push it up to 300 euro or so. could add dhl for 8 euro more to get quick shipping.

soon there is a new generation of low-power chips coming out (new devices should be out in May) - Intel Gemini Lake CPUs. This will offer a decent performance boost due to better speed and also using faster ddr4 ram, the benefit of which will be more apparent with these low-end cpus.

More ram and more usb 3 ports though.

The Celeron is only dual core v. quad core but it's single core performance is way better.

I would personally prefer it over the x5 for light casual use.

Also, the Celeron supports up to 8GB ram. The x5 just 2GB which is pretty useless for any sort of longevity, it's barely enough as it is for extremely light usage.

It's really designed for tablets, not for laptops.
