Looking up old court records

Someone has told me that my dad pleaded guilty to manslaughter 9 years before I was born. Is there any way I can research it without talking to him about it? Google or any other search engines don't return anything related. This was in the early 80's.

Is there any way to find older ones?

The local paper in the area may have historic ones.
Call into your (local) library and check if they have microfiche or other records.
Even if they don't they should be able to point you in the right direction and may be able to arrange membership in a library which has the information.

Try find out as much information as you can from the person who told you.

You can do a free search here of a lot of papers. There's free access to the full site in at least some local libraries. The search function isn't great though so best to narrow down your search to a small range of years.

I actually tried that after someone suggesting newspapers and didn't come up with anything.

If I'm correct, both the Irish Times and Irish Examiner have all their old editions online.

This is probably a really obvious question but did you check that the paper and date you want are on the website?
