Nest or Climote

I'm about to upgrade my Baxi Bermuda to a condescending boiler. I have just the one zone right now but will have three when the boiler is done.

My question is for the plumbers and installers. What control would you go for. Climote or Nest? Cost isn't that important. I'm looking for quality & ease of use

    Thanks in advance

I asked the same question in a plumbing Facebook group. After 12 hours the results were:

    Ember EPH Controls 37 votes

    Climote 3 Votes

    Nest 1 vote

I'm not sure why Nest & Climote scored so low but these guys are heating installers voting so I'm most likely going for the Ember EPH Controls

After lots of research going for Tado in my new house. Many reasons including unobtrusive wireless room stats, boost function, geofencing, seems to be easy to install, option of smart trvs

You won’t get a definitive as there are so many factors including most installers don’t know how to program the controllers.

I bought a climote a few years ago for its simplicity and pretty lights but as I’ve yet to fit the climote I may get myself a nest as it seems more trendy and I can buy more things to add to it.

So one nest thermostat can only control two zones, my friend has climote and he can control two heating zones and hot water separately. Nest is perfect for us as can control heat and hot water separately. Climote had a subscription charge so you can control it via a sim card. It's not dependent on your WiFi being up to control remotely.

I'm hooked on nest as I've added the nest protect smoke detectors, indoor iq cam and nest hello doorbell. The doorbell is particularly nice.

Also ordered the nest temp sensors. These can be placed in different rooms so you are not dependent on the nest stat location to monitor all the house temp.

Nest ticks a lot of boxes and is available from electric Ireland for 130 installed for customers and non customers.

I'm probably a bit biased but I'd recommend it.
    Thanks,
    Mick

If you have two heat zones and hot water then climote probably suits you better. I think it can be done with nest but you'd need two of the Nest stats

The nest is a "sexy" looking product for sure.

Gary what would you install most? Would these be your recommendation or what the client would pick out?

I'd just say one thing on the results. Most plumbers I talked to when upgrading our system just didn't know anything about nest or climote. They are more an 'electrical' product i think so it's that blurry line between a plumber knows plumbing and its a different skill set and often different person for electrical work.

    It’s just a switch.

All 3 are good products but i would go for the nest, great features, easy to use and visually impressive.

I think it’s a bit over cooked when as a country we can’t fit a room stat properly destroying its useabilty. I don’t install anymore as I’m too lazy and much prefer knocking other peoples work which you can get paid for now :D

Installers seem to like the climote as it’s simple and easy to use although of the many many installations i called to 99% use boost and not the app or programmer.

Home owners who choose their own controls have more success as their happy to learn how the controls work and then go on to use them properly.

Home owners who get one fitted on a deal seem at times to like the deal more than doing their homework on how to use the new controller and end up like the first group.

These fancy stats offer amazing levels of control and taking in to account the above I’d choose the nest.

Try talking to sparks about the difference between no voltage and mains voltage external controls.
