Looking a spare AC3748 bottom headset bearing for the Canyon CF SL and AL models. Will pay whatever the cost of the bearing was.

E Fox's in Baldonnell can no longer get the separate bearings and only have the full headset bearing kit for e80 incl. VAT. Acros may have copped on to folk buying individual bearings and have now put a stop to that.

Maybe Dicksons in Finglas? They've a decent range of standard bearings (although headsets are not their forte). If you have an OEM part number or a specification they might be able to help you.

Darn - just realised your bearing is for a headset. Sorry to get any hopes up!

Yeah, the headset. I'll keep that place in mind if I can't source one on here. Thanks.

You can get loose bearings there rather than the full set.

I saw those guys before. They only do the full kit or the top bearing which seems to be in more plentiful supply. There's another crowd called 'ActiveSport' who appear to sell the bottom bearing - just waiting to hear from them on shipping costs to Ireland.

Velo will you update here how you get on with ActiveSport or otherwise with your bearing search. Ta

Hmm. I think I was looking at a cached page for Activesport when I saw the particular bearing I'm looking for. Again, they have the top bearing in supply but no result for the bottom bearing when searching the actual website.

I sent off an email anyway, so we'll see what they say.

No joy with Activesport - old page as I thought. Emailed Dickson's in Finglas with the details.

No luck anywhere. Tried another place in the UK that advertised having a few of the lower bearings in stock. Unfortunately, they were a UK only wholesale business.

Acros must have a patent on the lower bearing as no other third party currently makes them. The newer AI-69 headset is cheaper and I guess was a response to complaints about the expensive AI-70 headset.

I was fortunate enough to source that lower bearing for my other bike but now it looks like I have no other option but to buy that full AI-70 bearing kit for e80.

Headset bearings and bottom brackets have become a nightmare in terms of standardisation .. or lack there of over the past 15 years.

I've purchased a set of bearings for my headset from the crowd https://www.edgesportsuk.com/store/components.html?cat=32 . Cost approx £15 for the pair.

Are the bearings you bought for a Canyon?

Unfortunately not.  I don't know what the Canyon bearings look like, but if you know the O.D., I.D, thickness and angle then you might be able to get them from a non Canyon source.

Therein lies the problem. Canyon seem to be a law unto themselves.
I have found it impossible, in the past 6 months, to source upper and lower bearings for my Canyon for less than £60.
The AC3748 bearing is the problem.

Did a bit of Googling there.  Looks like the Canyon Headsets are to an 'I-Lock' standard and are supplied by Acros.  Seems like they are around €99 a set https://shop.acros.de/headset/is/1617/ai-70-fiber-canyon/i-lock-upper-part-lower-part.  Looks like they differ from normal bearings in that you don't compress the bearings using the bung as you do in a normal steerer tube, you compress them and lock them with a grub screw.
Did come across another thread where some guy did away with the Canyon top bearing and fitted a normal bearing, but he had to fit a bung to the tube.

As per previous posts in the thread. Acros have a patent on the lower bearing - there are no generic alternatives. You cannot buy the bottom bearing separately.

To get the bottom bearing you must buy the set of two bearings with the plastic compression ring. E fox in Baldonnell will do the set for around e75(can't quite remember exactly what I paid).

Hope that puts it to bed once and for all!;)

For one brief and wonderful moment, when I read youtheman's post, I thought, Hallelujah, we have found the Holy Grail, and for £15.
    Hopes dashed, once again.

You can buy the bottom bearing separately but it will cost you £38 http://www.airevelobearings.com/product-list.php?subCatId=51&cat=bearings&subCat=headset+bearings .  I found another site where you had a bearing the exact same OD, same ID, same thickness, but with 2 chamfers instead of Canyon's one, ......and it was a tenner.  So just confirms what we already know : Canyon have you by the 'short and curlies'.  As an uncle of mine used to say "I don't mind a fellow beating me, but I hate a fellow riding me".

Yeah, and they don't even kiss you afterwards!
