    Hi Folks,
Car failed NCT today due to high idle. (It barely failed). CO reading was 1.07% where above 0.20% is a fail. HC was 70ppm where above 200ppm is a fail.
low idle passed CO reading was 0.15% where above 0.30% is a fail
    lambda reading was 0.97Passed
engine/oil temperature was 88 degrees . Is there a fuel additive that somebody can recommend to lower emissions how much it cost to be fixed thanks

    What car and year?
    When was car service last?

    Check and change air filter.
    Clean EGR
Toss in a whole bottle of Dipetane into tank and drive it hard for a day or two.

Fuel additives will help, but if your CO score was 5+ times the allowed value, you'll struggle. I put my old Puma through 3 times with every additive under the sun driven for 80km at 4000rpm, there's only so much that'll help.
A new catalytic converter sorted it though. Depending on the age and value of the car, you could probably get a few years out of a cheap Ebay special, or if the car owes you 5 figures, spring for a proper off-the-shelf one.
I went ebay + exhaust-fitter install, less than €200 for the fix AFAIR.

    Get the underlying cause fixed.

Sounds to me like a vacuum leak. Fairly simple to trace and fix

+1. Get the car properly diagnosed to see why the lambda value is not 1.00(00000...) which is a sign that it's overfuelling for some reason. The other values will probably fall back to normal when this is done. Don not buy a new cat as it won't fix the main issue.
