    A mate has just got a 2016 mazda 3 saloon, a rather nice car actually.

    Did mazda ever offer a hybrid version of this, and offer it for sale in Europe, it appears they did but it was Japan only.

    Are they essentially a Ford Focus

    will probably be changing next year so will keep it in mind

    No hybrid sold in Europe and the current 3 has no connection with the Focus or Ford.

    how is that diesel skyactiv engine these times or is it still to be avoided

    The 1.5 diesel doesn’t seem to be throwing up issues but maybe it’s just not out long enough or as popular globally so less owners.
