Something I could never find; a one litre car that I could fit into, to get affordable insurance. I'm a 6' 6" dude who could only fit into Corollas and saloon Civics.

Still in Canada, plan to stay (and get a RAM 1500), but on the off chance that PR doesn't work out, and I need to come back to Ireland (having been away for two years, so no NCB), and get something to drive with affordable insurance (I'll be needing a car to get decent jobs).

The lack of speed may just mean I'll be obeying those with signs with numbers dotted around the countryside :pac:

    Try a Yaris.

Yes a Yaris. I just got a second hand Yaris and my husband who is 6 foot 2 remarked that he had loads of head space above him, way more than in his own much bigger looking car, and if he pushed back the passenger seat that he had way more leg room than expected. Deceptive little cars. (Although at 6 foot 6 you may have to try them out first)

Why limit yourself like that? You should be able to insure a bigger car for not much more money than a 1l sh*tbox. Something like a corolla 1.4 or equivalent astra shouldn't break the bank on insurance. I'd recommend the corolla for trouble-free motoring but if it's just to keep one year, a good exemple astra should do.

I work with a guy who's 6' 7" and must be 25 stone. I remember one day a driving instructor pulling up outside work in a Polo. Yer man tried to get into the driver's seat, but just wouldn't fit. After a while of adjusting seats and steering wheel, the instructor had to give up and head off, stranding yer man, and someone else had to give him a lift home.

Somehow he eventually did get lessons and learned to dive, and has had the same Yaris Verso (think "Estate Yaris") for the past 10 years. He seems to get on fine in it (but I doubt someone would be able to sit in the seat behind him). I think his is 1.3 Petrol - I don't think it came in a 1 L.

What's wrong with those **** boxes?!

    - Fiesta/Focus 1.0l Ecoboost 100-140 PS
    - Clio 0.9l TCE 90 PS
    - Polo/Ibiza/Fabia/Golf/Octavia/Leon 1.0TSI 95-115 PS. Even the 1.0MPI is decent enough in the Polo/Ibiza!?

I am only 6'4" but can comfortably fit into any of those.

I hear you, what I meant by boxes were the 1ltr early corsas and such, not the turbocharged relatively modern equivalent... If budget allows, indeed, the ones you mentioned are more than capable and also more spacious by far than what I had in my mind when the words 1litre entered it ;)

Skoda fabia is very roomy and 1 litre mpi goes grand and is economical have borrowed the oul fellas one and i wud have no probs using it as my everyday car like most models stay away from the basic ones the yaris is very good as well but it wud have to be the 1. 33 engine which is just as cheap to run

The new civic hatchback is available with a 1 litre engine & supposedly is roomier than previous model.

An astra might not break the bank on insurance but on maintenance it could. They are not great when it comes to reliability.

I'm 6ft 4" and my bro is 6ft 8", we both learned and fit in a Yaris, both the original body and new body (~2006). Also a cracking car in terms of fuel economy and general wear, you can't kill them. Loses marks on the glamour side though, but if I needed a cheap car for A/B, it would hand down be a Yaris.

Sebastian Chabal is 6'3", but very broad and I saw him drive a smartcar. The tiny one! I've a friend that's 6'7" and he drove Panda for years. Today's Fiat Panda is quiet a tall car.

Engine size is less relevant these days. A GTE Passat has 250bhp but has a 1.4 engine.

Don't laugh, but a 2 metre + tall friend of mine drives a Smart For Two. Lots of headroom

VW UP!,skoda Citigo, Seat Mii, same car , loads of headroom.

Im 6ft 5 . And all my height is from my arse up so i have the same problem of having no head room.
But i easily fit in a ford focus/ mazda 3/ skoda octavia/ even fiat punto . A lot of the small hatchbacks have great head room you shouldnt have any issues
