Evidence of driving test (learner permit renewal)

    Hi all,

    Quick question.

My second learner permit will expire soon and I am looking at getting it renewed. For the third renewal, however, you need proof of a driving test being scheduled.

I haven't ever actually taken any lessons, so as far as I can see that leaves me in a catch 22 since you seemingly can't book a test unless you have completed all 12 EDT tests.

Am I making sense? Silly to have not done it before now of course.

I think that you're stuck there Noodler. As you say for the third you need to show either a relevant certificate of failure from a recent test attempt or proof that you have a test booked. As the 12 EDT lessons are now all registered online by the instructor, there's no way to fiddle it and book a test before completing them.

I know that you are kicking yourself, but you really should have got those lessons under your belt by now!

Go ahead and make the 'booking' online - the only consequence of being in the situation you're in is that a test date can't be issued as having your EDT completed is a prerequisite. You'll be given a receipt or an email to show the NDLS and an appointment will be issued as soon as the RSA see you've completed EDT. Until you do that, you'll stay in limbo.

Basically, you can't take EDT if you don't have a valid permit.

Not 100% positive but pretty sure that you have to show a scheduled test date and not just payment...

You can book your test. You won't get a date for it until all your EDTs are completed. Then you'll receive an email confirming payment for test. This can be used to get a further learner permit for 1 year. Do the EDTs, take the test and pass. If you don't pass, the whole process restarts regards to learner permit. Effectively, a person can be on a learner permit for life! Hope this helps and good luck.

    Thanks for all the responses.

    This makes good sense.

I just done it this morning, I'm on my second learner permit and that expires in two weeks so I booked my test online and received an email saying to use same as evidence of a booked test to get my third learner permit. Simple
