Mushroom in bathroom grout

Hope this is the right place for this question, and apologies in advance for disgusting imagery.

Long story short about 3 weeks back i noticed a couple of mushrooms growing out of the grout in my bathroom shower, about waist height. I removed them and cleaned the shower thoroughly.

Now their sprouting back and theres more of them, its nasty. Most of them are growing out of cracks in the grout, some are even growing off a sludge that has developed.

Im not 100% on a fix,

Clean thoroughly, degrout and regrout whole area. Silicon seal where needed.

Or do i need to remove tiles to see if there anything going on behind?
Im inclined to think its from shower water as opposed to a leak somewhere else as since ive stopped using it the mushrooms are wilting.

    Any help here is appreiated.

    note.
Seems i cant post links to images, mushrooms are transucent or light brown, coming from grout and corners. nasty.

Probably just mildew. It is common enough although I never had mushrooms. Use a spray on them to kill everything. It maybe due to a lack of ventilation in the room so use the fan or open a window rather than letting the room steam up.
Obviously if the seals are gone then replace them.

Op you'll have to pull the tiles off.tbe growth is in the wall board beneath the tile. No amount of silicone will solve that. This is a retailer and reboard job

Bathroom was apparently only put in a few years ago, lads who must have done must have been complete cowboys!

    Daithi, that’s the stuff alright.

Your saying re-tile and re-board is needed?
The tiles also run straight down to the basin, a buddy told me their should be something between to the two to stop the water.
If an engineer was certifying a house renovation this isn’t something he should notice?

An Engineer cannot see behind the tiles. And they rarely would give such detail of bathroom fitment unless you specifically asked for it to be done.

There is more thank likely heavy amounts of water making its way behind the tile area. Id have it all pulled out personally. can be cleaning in a room with that level of problem.
