Bought one of these yesterday as my upgrade, really lucked in because the network stores in Galway didn't have any and Carphone Warehouse had only 4 in the country and one of them happened to be in the very store I chanced.
I like it so far, it's a bit slippy left flat on a table but I'm sure a good case will help with this.
One bug to watch out for is the Smart lock settings just show a blank screen, so I've been unable to have the phone remain unlocked when in the car cradle for example, also I'll miss the finger print scanner being on the side power button. Was handy for a swipe of my thumb to unlock.

    This too shall pass.

Should be getting mine soon, its a lovely looking phone and yours is probably network unlocked as well :-)
The smart lock is a bug in Oreo 8.0, 8.1 should be out soon.
    The fix:
Disable the Trust agents in the Lock Screen & Security Settings
    Restart the phone.
    Enable the Trust agents

Thanks for that. One more word of advice, plug the headphone adapter into the headphones straight away after opening, little bugger is too easy to lose. (found it again since)

    This too shall pass.

Yip, I bought some cheap ones off ebay to have as well :-) !

The dual headphone and usbc power adapter I got off ebay works fine

Looks very solid in this wear and tear test

It looks kind of chunky imho.
Although I've only seen it in videos... How does it looks in the hand?

Btw I owned a Sony Z5 previously and loved it. That's until it died suddenly in my hand whilst Whatapping :-(

It's a big phone for sure, I'm waiting to get a cover for it because it's a bit slippy, especially left down on a surface, also the included headphones wouldn't sit in my ears right, even when I changed to the smallest buds.
other than that, battery is excellent, sound is good, I can actually watch Netflix on it with the external speakers and it sounds fine.
Over all I'm happy with my purchase.

    This too shall pass.

I definitely recommend a cover as well, its quiet slippy without one.
Its a nice upgrade over the Z5, I had the Z5 Compact and Sony have improved on the Camera and for me the battery is very good.

Hate bringing up an old thread but can ask the users that got this what its like?

Been offered one for free on an upgrade and Ive always been a Sony fan (skipped the last xz series because I had just upgraded) but this really interests me.

Also been offered the S8+(free),S9 / S9+ and P20 pro ( all will cost between €199 - 399 on upgrade)

Never really been a Samsung fan and Im just not sure of the P20 pro.

I quite like it. The software isn't perfect, a minor glitch on smart lock. But battery performs well, it's fast to recharge and has a good camera. I had to fork out €300 to upgrade to mine so it's a steal at a free upgrade

    This too shall pass.

Thanks Flazio. Ive been reading reviews all weekend about it.
Im coming from a HTC 10 (my last upgrade 2 years ago) which I love. Before that was a z3 and before that was a z10.

I know Sonys software can be a bit finicky but theyre usually good with updates and fixes.

I think Im sold on it.

BTW what case did you get as that's the only real concern I have is that its supposed to be really slippery.

Just a €10 wrap around with a stand on the back from an accessory stand in Eyre Square shopping centre..

    This too shall pass.

Battery and the camera are the great for me.
I bought a cheap case on ebay for 5€, it does the job its one slippery phone when it isnt in a case

Decided to go with it. Just waiting on it to arrive now.

Enable the stamina mode and it does a good job of getting more life out of the battery.
Also the Battery care is a good feature (if your keeping the phone for a good while ) as it slowly charges the phone if you charge the phone at the same time.
Give the phone a few days to recognize your charging patterns.

Well I just picked it up a few hours ago.

First impressions--Its heavy but feels really really solidly built. I prefer my phones feeling solid.

Loving the ergonomics of it--fits nicely in the hand.

I put a case and screen protector on it straight away as it is slippery.

The speed of it is amazing. It boots up in seconds and opening apps is almost instant.

    So far so good.

I might be looking for some tips especially that smart lock issue when I eventually get it all set up and running.

I think the smart lock issue is resolved by now, as there have been a few updates of the firmware

Have to say after a week with this.
Its a fantastic phone. Much better than my mates s9 or even the s9+

Anyone whos seen it is really impressed with it.

Opposite for me unfortunately. Last two updates brought the glitch back.

    This too shall pass.

Just wondering how people are getting on with this phone?
Am due an upgrade and can get this the p20 or the s8 for free.
I feel the s8 is a bit old at this stage, haven't had a Huawei for ages but it was slow for updates.
The last Sony I had was the PlayStation one and that was slow as well for updates. How are Sony now for updates ?
Any one of them would be a good upgrade on the Motorola g4 I'm using atm.

    Any input greatly appreciated

Get along great. It's not without its bugs as has been mentioned in the thread before but the fixes are there. The XZ3 has been announced and has some minor improvements if you want to hold out for that.

    This too shall pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,115 ✭✭✭wilser

Cheers for that, hadn't realised there was a new one coming out next month. Not sure how long I will have to wait for eir to stock it or how much it will cost.
With a new model coming out does that mean that updates will stop for the xz2?

Im really loving the xz2. Its quick as anything. Feels a bit heavy in the hand but to be honest I like that as it feels really well built and not flimsy if you get me.

Updates seem to be quick coming and I think android p is out soon for it.
Ill definitely have it till next upgrade in 2020.

No, I reckon the updates will continue for 2 years at least.

    This too shall pass.

Great thanks for the help. Think I will just go for the xz2 as I didn't even know I needed a new phone until eir told me I was entitled to an upgrade 😀

Android Pie was downloaded to my device this morning. :)
The smart lock bug seems fixed.

    This too shall pass.

Seems to be eating my battery a bit, maybe I need to check some settings or something.
Also nit picky, but if I'm adjusting the volume to full when the phone is in the car cradle, my hand now blocks the volume display since it moved to the side.
Other than that it looks lovely.

    This too shall pass.

Battery is fine for me--says 1 day 7 hours left now and that was unplugged at 8.00 am this morning.

However turn off that stupid "turn wifi on automatically" setting. That seems to cause havoc with your battery if youre out and about.

If youre in range of a wifi network you used in the past (even with a crap signal) Android P turns the wifi on automatically to connect to the network.

It was causing my battery to go down a bit faster.

Its grand if youre at home on your own wifi but out and about its a pain.

Don't know if anyone still has one of these phones or picked one up in CEX or the like but Android 10 was installed on mine this morning.

    This too shall pass.

Yeah they started the Android 10 rollout again since Tuesday as there was issues with the first version that came out in January
