    Hi,

I have a stop over in schiphol for 9 hours arriving there at 8.50am and departing for my onward flight at 5.50pm, would i be able to leave the airport and head into the city for a few hours? my bag will be held for the departing flight as it's on the 1 ticket.

Any ideas what i could do in Amsterdam for the day without to much stress? i have been to Amsterdam before for a weekend but it was a stag and it was a good few years ago so can't really remember much.

    Any suggestions would be appriecated?

    Thanks.

Well if you can leave the airport you are only 10/15 mins away from amsterdam central so I would say go there and kill a few hours but leave in plenty of time to head back to the airport :D

Yeah, you'll have plenty time to go the city, you would be fairly bored if you decided to stay in the airport all day waiting for your flight, I had the same stopover a while back, just got the train into Amsterdam Central Station, I didn't really do much around Amsterdam though, went for breakfast, did a bit of shopping , had a stroll around the city and drank a few pints in the afternoon, I'm sure someone else can suggest something more interesting to do to pass the day away.

Arriving at 08.50 means you could be in the city centre by train by 09.30. For a flight at 5.50, I’d be heading back around 3.30pm. That gives you up to 6 hours in town.

There are lots of museums and galleries to check out. Go on a canal boat cruise (corny as they are) to see the city from the water. Grab a bus over to Westerpark for a walk and some restaurants. Take the public free ferry from Centraal station across the Ij river and visit the Toren for views of the city. Or just wander around the shops etc

Any number of things you could do really, shopping, museums, canal tour, rent a pedal boat, eat, drink.

Train to central station will take about 15 minutes (if that) and most of the common attractions are within another 15 minute walk from there.

Just don't do like so many other people do and get so stoned you miss your flight.

not sure if you've been to Schiphol before but don't expect Dublin airport, if you needed to spend 8 hours there you could easily do it without getting too bored, between shopping eating and all the other services (including a casino).

Having said that, if the weather is somewhat decent Amsterdam is a fabulous city to spend a day.
