Lost 25 Per cent of his audience in the last 12 months, apparently.
Like Radio 1, it seems Lyric had a nightmare of a book also, going from 4 to 3 per cent reach nationally.

It seems our old friend Death is catching up with the Lyric audience and they're not being replaced by new young, healthy 75 year old listeners.

I listen to Lyric quite a lot but they do need to drastically reduce the target age group. The music speaks for itself and people who listen to classical music are always going to be in a small minority but having presenters who only appeal to the ancients is not going to encourage younger generations to tune in.

I mentioned Elspeth Pierce recently as being an excellent presenter when she's on - she can't be the only one in the world who is both young and a fan of classical music with a bit of personality thrown in.
