Eir - moving home

Hi all. I am on a 24 month contract with Eir which is due to end in few months.
When I called to change the address as we are moving to another house I was told that I will have to commit to another 24 month contract or pay charges for cancelling the current one.
How legitimate is that? Can they actually force me to commit to a new contract just because they cant transfer services to my new address?
Is there a way to avoid charges as I was not planning to terminate current contract and no intention of committing to another one once this will expire?
    Thanks

    It's Eir mobile, right ?

If you only have a few month left, why don't you just leave things ?

Get An Post to forward your invoices or switch to email invoices.

And then cancel the service off, when you're out of contract. Job done.

    /M
