Does travel insurance cover canx due to illness in family?

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone can help me out.Myself and my family have booked flights with Ryanair to France this July but unfortunately my elderly father was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer this week and it's possible that he may only receive palliative care therefore his outlook is not good.We have been informed that he may only have a few months to live worst case scenario. I will be caring for him so obviously don't want to head off on holiday especially at this stage. Is it possible that travel insurance will cover our cancellation as I know Ryanair certainly won't refund us.Any advice much appreciated.

Have you already taken out travel insurance? If you have then you need to read the policy to see if this situation is covered, it usually is. If you have no existing policy then this counts as a pre-existing condition and any new policy will not cover cancellation due to your father's diagnosis.
