puchased a new car end of March. it only arrived at the dealers last week for collection.

went to pay the motor tax online and am getting charged 1/10th of the annual motor tax in arrears.

i assumed id only have to pay motor tax from the day of collection? is it an oversight on my side or shoukd the dealer have sorted this as the delivery delay was on their side?

Depends when the car was registered to you. I assume it was march. Talk to the sales guy. I suspect he was just reaching his see target for the month

Nope, it’s owed from when it’s registered. There is the facility to declare the car off the road and then tax it, but it’s the 25th April now and you only get 21 days from registration date to that AFAIK.

Dealer should have sorted it but it may be too late now. I had a similar case where the car was registered on Jan 31st to get included in a promotion/deal at the time but it wasnt ready for collection until mid Feb.

I only paid tax for Feb as dealer had declared it off the road in Jan.
