Can I apply for driving exam in different centers at the same time?

    Hello,

I have applied for driving exam in Tallaght and they told me that everything is booked till August (unless someone will cancel)

In my opinion 4 months waiting time is a bit too much! How such a small country like Ireland can't manage queues? Also if you fail exam you have to wait another 4 months. My colleague with 6 years driving experience in another country failed exam 5 times in a row. And my driving instructor told me - don't expect to pass from the first time.

But my question is not about that, I want to ask - is it possible to apply in different centers at the same time, so if I fail one exam I don't have to wait for another? I already applied in 1 center and I am thinking to apply in 3 more centers.

The problem is, that I have to leave Ireland on January and I don't have much time. If I fail my exam on August, I have to wait till December and this is my last chance.

Afaik you can't go on the list for different centres at the same time. Open to correction on that.

However, if you need a test quickly you can go on the cancellation list and you will get one sooner, but with a bit less notice. If you urgently need one you can call them and they will very likely be able to offer you a test, but could be very short notice (even the same day!). So if you do fail your first test I'd recommend going on the cancellation list when you rebook, and if you find yourself waiting around and think you're ready to sit one at short notice you can always call them.

There's probably a few factors as to why the waiting list is so long such as understaffing but someone from the RSA was on the radio the other day and said 1 in 5 tests are no shows which contributes a lot to clogging up the waiting lists.

    Hi,

Have you telephoned them, said that you will accept the test in any centre ?

    Re. no shows

I had a pupil who was desperate for a test. I asked him would he be willing to sit all day in the driving test waiting room and if offered would he accept a "No show" slot. Absolutely, he said.

I put the proposal to a supervisor. He said no way, the examiners will only work to the list they receive from the RSA, Ballina, no last minute substitute possible.

But that was good few years ago, maybe worth a try again ???
